Professor Ingemar Cox appointed as new Director of the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR
We are delighted to announce that Professor Ingemar Cox has been appointed as the new Director of the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR.
Current Director of the Hub, Professor Rachel McKendry, will join the Wellcome Trust as the Executive Director of Discovery where she will lead a long-term programme supporting bold, paradigm-changing discovery research with the potential to transform our understanding of human life, health, and wellbeing.
Rachel McKendry shared, "I am absolutely delighted that Ingemar will become the new Director of the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR. Ingemar is a brilliant computer scientist and brings an outstanding track record in research leadership combined with public health impact. He has had a distinguished career at Bell Labs and NEC, was Director of UCL's Adastral Park Campus, was Deputy Director of the i-sense EPSRC IRC for 10 years, and is currently Deputy Director of the Digital Health Hub for AMR. Ingemar has pioneered the development of the first machine learning-based early warning sensing systems for infectious diseases, adopted by the UK Health Security Agency for national flu and COVID-19 surveillance. Establishing and leading the Hub has been an incredible journey, and I feel very grateful to have worked alongside such talented researchers and students. I would like to thank everyone for their support and wonderful messages, and I look forward to starting this exciting new role at Wellcome."
Ingemar Cox also said, "I am honoured to step into the role of Director for the EPSRC Digital Health Hub for AMR. The Hub is at the forefront of pivotal research that addressing one of the most pressing global health challenges. I am excited to lead such a talented team and continue our work in developing digital solutions to tackle antimicrobial resistance."
