Empowering future leaders in Digital Health
The Digital Health Hub for AMR in collaboration with the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training iN digGital heAlth technoloGiEs (ENGAGE) at UCL, recently concluded a 3-day course aimed at equipping a early career researchers with the skills and knowledge to innovate and commercialise MedTech solutions, including in the field of AMR. The course, titled "MedTech Device Innovation and Commercialisation for Digital Health and Digital AMR" addressed the unique challenges and opportunities within this rapidly expanding sector.
Course content was created and delivered by Adam Dubis, Professor of Digital Enterprise, UCL, with additional support from Hassan Chaudhury, Commerical Director of DATA-CAN & Visiting Lecturer, UCL Global Business School for Health, Dr. Bilal Mateen, Chief AI Officer of PATH, Sam Ajami, Senior Account Manager and Value Architect of Symbe, and Dr. Autumn Lang, Director of Clinical Affairs, deepeye.
The course was structured to help participants:
Understand the MedTech ecosystem and its evolution.
Identify market stratification and entry points tested in global markets.
Navigate legal and regulatory hurdles in MedTech startups.
Explore financing routes and accounting methods for startups.
Reflect on their own innovations and goals within the MedTech space.

The three-day programme included seven modules, each designed to build a comprehensive understanding of the MedTech landscape:
Context and trends in digital health – Led by Hassan Chaudhury and Adam Dubis, this module provided an overview of the digital health market, key trends, and entrepreneurial strategies.
Current trends and strategies in AMR – Dr. Bilal Mateen guided participants through the latest innovations in digital health solutions addressing AMR.
Funding your idea – Sam Ajami covered the types of funding available for digital health startups and strategies for securing investment.
Developing your business strategy – Hassan Chaudhury helped participants develop robust business models using the Lean Canvas framework.
International regulatory environments – Dr. Autumn Lang provided a global perspective on medical device regulation and strategies for market access.
Developing and giving your pitch – Participants refined their ideas and presented them to the group, receiving valuable feedback.
